Thank you to Jamie Swinnerton at WHCU for this interview. Two different spots are playing today on 870am. And you can read one of the spots on the WHCU website. What great local media we have in Ithaca!
“A main issue for me really is equality for women but also for all people.Diversity not only in government but in our whole community. It is a very diverse community but I don’t feel like people are necessarily represented equally,”Champion said.
"I'm willing to do the work. I'm ready to move the county forward and be progressive and I think I have strong ideals, and I'm a strong woman," Champion said. "I think it's important for women to get involved and I'm happy to be the one to do it."
Thanks so much to Nick Reynolds at the Ithaca Times for writing up this great article!
Stepping up: A local organizer and activist runs for office “Honestly, it’s not something a year ago I would’ve said, ‘yeah, this is something I want to do,’” said Champion. “But I think, getting involved, much more these days in politics, has slowly snowballed into something that seems to make a lot of sense for me to do.” She, Burbank and Anna Kelles, a representative for portions of downtown Ithaca, spoke to each other about the prospect of Champion’s run for office. After consulting with other members of the legislature as well as the leadership of the local Democratic committee, Champion decided a run for office was the right thing to do."
